Riding a scooter the normal way is never that interesting. You may often need to perform some acrobatic maneuvers to improve your experience and enjoyment of the same. The tailwhip is an example of those maneuvers.
For a start, the tailwhip is basically a series of tricks that you may perform on the scooters. In its simplest form, it entails the rotation of the frame (the bars and the forks) with the rest of the scooter remaining intact.
There are several variations of the tailwhips. Examples of these include the superman, 540, backflip, opposite, and footjam tailwhips, among others. In our discussions that follow, we are going to discuss in details how to perform the most basic of the tailwhip maneuver explained above.
Start by steering your scooter using your foot. Increase speed until you reach the top speed possible. Once you have attained the highest speed possible, use your hands to lift the scooter off the ground. Jump up at the same time to expedite this procedure.
You may also think of climbing a steep slope and then fall off the other end that is not sloppy. This will also elevate your scooter off the ground and into the air.
As soon as you have reached mid-air, jump off your scooter. Be gentle while doing this to prevent you from falling off. While at it, push the brake of the scooter sideways using the same foot you use to push the scooter. Be sure that your feet do not cross each other as this may entangle you and make you fall.
While jumping off the scooter in mid-air, rotate it. To do this, turn the frame around so as to swerve the scooter around. Apply enough force to counter the weight of the scooter and guarantee a complete rotation. In case you apply less or moderate force, the scooter might not turn around completely and therefore jeopardize you.
In case you are a pro, you might consider rotating the scooter severally before making a landing. Do not attempt to do so if you are a starter though as it is a potentially dangerous maneuver.
Now prepare the scooter for landing. The ideal landing position is when both wheels of the scooter are placed flat and level on the ground. This is the position that guarantees you maximum stability and spares you from the likelihood of tipping off.
To land your scooter, stop it from rotating. Level it and see to it that it is flat. Then direct it onto the surface which you will have selected to land it. After it has landed, steady it on the ground and gently place your feet on it. If it is not large enough to accommodate both feet, place the right one.
Repeat the above procedures and maneuvers several times. This is to give you the experience you require as well as the enjoyment that comes along with the tailwhip maneuver.
